Jacksonville Port Authority (JAXPORT) will expand container capacity by 150% at the SSA terminal

  • The Jacksonville Port Authority awarded $48.8 million to Superior Construction to increase the container handling capacity at the SSA Jacksonville Container Terminal.
  • The Project will complete in 2024 which enables the SSA facility to manage about 500,000 TEU annually to its current throughput and in total it will grow JAXPORT’s container handling capacity by 40% to 2 million TEU annually

Vietnam Seaports handled 537 million tons of goods in the first 9 months of 2021

  • Vietnam Seaports handled over 537 million tons of goods despite interruptions from the lockdown which is a 3% year-long progress, keeping a double-digit growth rate of 15% 
  • The Port's exports increased by 13% to 6 million TEU, imports increased by 18% to 6.1 million TEU, and goods reached 6.3 million TEU.

Port of Savanna will spend $34 million to increase the container capacity

  • Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) will spend over $34 million to increase the capacity in 1.6 m twenty-foot equivalent container units at Port of Savanna, which will start in December
  • The Port of Savanna handled 5.3 million TEU annually and in August handled 485,595 TEU which is a 10% increase from August 2020

China’s container throughput increased 11.1% during January and August 2021

  • The Beibu Gulf Port’s container throughput increased by 19.7% to 3.63 million TEU but the Port of Dalian container throughput decreased by 40.3% to 2.37 million TEU compared to 2020

Port of Barcelona sees a 17% increase in freight traffic in 2021

  • Port of Barcelona’s freight traffic grew by 17% within January and August 2021 compared to the same period of 2020, surpassing 44.4 million tonnes.
  • Container traffic grew 31.1% from pre-pandemic levels to 2.4 million TEUs, and container rail traffic grew by 46% to 161,735 TEUs in the first half of 2021.

Abu Dhabi (AD) Ports and CMA CGM declared a new terminal at Khalifa Port

  • The AD ports and CMA CGM signed a 35-year concession agreement to establish a new terminal at Khalifa Port.
  • The project is worth AED 570 million ($154 million) and will be handover in 2024 with a quay length of 800m and an estimated annual capacity of 1.8 million TEUs in phase 1.
  • AD Ports group will build,200m of quay wall, a 3,800m breakwater, a fully built-out rail platform, and 700,000sqm of the terminal yard.
