China saw an 8.4% growth in container throughput in 2021

  • China’s container throughput climbed 8.4% to 235.48 million TEU in the first ten months of 2021, and the cargo throughput of the country reached 12.87 billion tonnes, a year-on-year rise of 7.8%. 
  • In October, the country processed a total of 24.52 million TEU and 1.32 billion tonnes of cargo, which shows that in the first nine months of 2021, China processed 211 million TEU, an increase of 9.5% compared to 2020.
  • Shanghai's container throughput increased by 9.9% to 34.8 million TEU.
