China sees 2nd straight month of consumer price increases

China experienced a 2nd consecutive monthly increase in consumer prices during March, indicating ongoing economic challenges despite some signs of improvement.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose by 0.1% year-on-year in March, following a 0.7% increase in February.
This CPI growth surpassed economists' expectations, marking the first gain in six months.
However, the monthly comparison showed a less positive picture, with the CPI declining by 1.0% from the previous month, worse than expected.
In contrast, the Producer Price Index (PPI) continued its downward trend, dropping by 2.8% year-on-year in March, compared to a 2.7% decline in the prior month.
Factory-gate prices have consistently fallen over the past year and a half as companies adjust selling prices amidst declining commodity prices.
