Egypt's annual inflation soared to 7.3% in January, the highest since August

- In January, Egypt's annual urban consumer price inflation grew by7.3% year-on-year, which is the highest since August 2019, and up from 5.9% in December.
- The headline inflation number reflected negative base results and growing food prices as food inflation grew by 2.1% due to monthly inflation trends.
- Egypt's economy bounced back from the worst of the coronavirus pandemic as the gross domestic product grew by 9.8% year-on-year in the July-September quarter, up from 0.7% a year earlier.
