Japan & Italy forged stronger defense and economic alliances

Japan and Italy's leaders agreed to work together more closely on security and defense, including developing a new fighter jet with Britain.

Italy plans to send more warships to the region and conduct joint military exercises with Japan.

Japan's prime minister praised progress on the new fighter jet project with Britain.

The 3 countries signed a deal in December to create a joint organization for building the fighter jet.
