UK construction output downfall continues, dropping by 20%, year on year

- The value of work starting on-site during the 3 months to November dropped 13% and it is 20% lower than the previous year.
- The value of residential work on-site decreased by 34% compared to the same period in 2020, and 15% compared to the preceding three months to November.
- Private housing construction starts fell by 21%, which is down 37% compared to 2020 levels although social housing starts grew by 1%, the value dropped more than a quarter (-26%) against the previous year.
- Industrial project starts increased by 11% which is the only sector to experience dual growth.
- Scotland witnessed the worst three months to November, the value of project starts dropped by 58% compared to the previous year, and 48% compared with the preceding three months to November.
- Similarly, in Wales, the value of the projects dropped by 51% against 2020 figures which were also in the East of England (-25%), North West (-22%), South East (-24%), and West Midlands (-20%).
