U.S. housing construction on its lowest level in July due to high mortgage rates and building material prices

  • Housing commissioning fell by 9.6% to 1.446 million units, which is the lowest level since February 2021. 
  • Single-family housing, which accounts for the country's largest housing construction share, fell by 10.1% to 916,000 units, the lowest since June 2020.
