U.S. mortgage rates dip to 6.76%, easing pressure on homebuyers

As of May 1, 2025, the average U.S. 30-year fixed mortgage rate dropped to 6.76%, down from 6.81% the previous week.
This rate is also lower than the 7.22% recorded at the same time last year.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.92%, slightly down from 5.94% last week and 6.47% a year ago.
Recently, the 30-year mortgage rate has dipped below the Q1 2025 average of 6.83%.
