Australia’s Timber Union backs reforms to strengthen anti-dumping commission

The Timber, Furnishing, and Textiles Union (TFTU) has welcomed reforms that boost the Anti-Dumping Commission’s (ADC) powers to respond more effectively to import surges sudden.
The reforms come amid global trade instability, chronic oversupply, and redirected pulp, paper, and timber goods from the U.S. entering Australia.
TFTU says Australia’s manufacturing sector has shown resilience during globalization and COVID-19, but stronger protections are needed in today’s conditions.
The new safeguard function will be transferred from the Productivity Commission, which has conducted such investigations only rarely in the past.
The TFTU has been a longtime advocate of this reform to defend local jobs and industries.
The union worked in partnership with the AWU, AMWU, ACTU, and industry stakeholders to secure the change.
