Finland exported €2.5B worth of forest products to Germany and China in 2024

In 2024, Finland’s forest product exports totaled €12 billion, making up 17% of the country’s total goods exports.
Germany, China, and the USA were key buyers, taking 11%, 10%, and 9% respectively.
Paperboard led all export categories, reaching €3.3 billion in value—up 5%—with volume rising 9% to 3.6 million tonnes.
Lumber exports held steady at 8.2 million m³, generating €2 billion, a 7% rise in revenue. Europe received 48% of these exports.
Overall wood product exports brought in over €3 billion, showing a 2% increase in real terms.
Pulp exports dropped 9% in volume and 5% in value, while paper volumes rose 4% but value dipped 1%.
Together, they still formed a large part of total forest exports.
Europe remained the top market for Finland’s forest exports at 60%, followed by Asia at 21%.
Forest-related imports reached €1.5 billion (2% of Finland’s total imports), with Sweden and Estonia as top suppliers.
Wood imports rose 11% to 5.6 million m³. Latvia was the largest supplier, exporting 2.2 million m³—a 43% increase from 2023.
