May saw a 21% year-on-year increase in Brazilian exports of wood products

  • In May, Brazilian exports of wood-based products (except pulp and paper) grew by 21% in value compared to May 2021, from $416.2 million to $503.2 million.
  • Pine sawnwood exports grew by 27% in value growing from $66.5 million in May 2021 to $74.6 million in May 2022.
  • In the same period, in volume, export declined from 298,100 m³ to 295,200 m³.
  • Tropical sawnwood exports grew by 7% in volume, from 41,200 m to 43,900 m³ in May 2022, and in value, exports grew by 13% from $6.6 million to $18.8 million.

  • However, demand for Pine plywood exports fell by 20.0% to $101.6 million compared to May 2021 and in volume, exports also fell by 3.0% to 239,200 m³.
  • Tropical plywood, exports dropped by 7.7% in volume but saw an increase of 6.0% in value, but wooden furniture export earnings dropped by 16.0% to $58.9 million in May 2022.
