New Zealand expands forestry exports through strategic Vietnam partnership

New Zealand expands forestry exports through strategic Vietnam partnership

Posted on May 29, 2025   |

New Zealand and Vietnam have signed a new Cooperation Arrangement to boost timber exports and remove trade barriers.

The agreement will allow Vietnam to recognize New Zealand’s radiata pine in its updated timber construction standards.

This move opens up greater access to Vietnam’s growing timber market for New Zealand exporters.

New Zealand currently exports $48 million worth of sawn timber to Vietnam, a figure expected to rise significantly.

The deal supports the goal of doubling the value of New Zealand's exports within the next 10 years.

Vietnam’s rapidly growing economy offers strong potential, with its income levels projected to rise among the fastest globally.
