North American wood market activity pauses amid thanksgiving celebrations

The North American solid wood commodity market paused as U.S. players took a break for the Thanksgiving holiday.

As of the week ending Nov. 29, Western Spruce-Pine-Fir softwood lumber prices remained steady at $470 per mfbm.

Compared to one month ago, Western Spruce-Pine-Fir prices increased by 17% ($67) from $403 per mfbm and rose by 14% ($56) from $414 per mfbm last year. The price dropped by 1% ($5) compared to two years ago ($475 per mfbm).

Southern Yellow Pine East Side prices decreased to $390 per mfbm in the week ending Nov. 29, down 5% ($20) from the previous week.

Compared to one month ago, Southern Yellow Pine prices dropped by 16% ($75) from $465 per mfbm and fell by 9% ($40) from $430 per mfbm last year.

Two years ago, Southern Yellow Pine prices were down 14% ($65) from $455 per mfbm.
