Resolute halts operations at Maniwaki sawmill for 6 months

Resolute Forest Products has temporarily closed its Maniwaki sawmill, affecting about 280 workers.

The closure, expected to last six months, adds to a series of shutdowns at local forestry plants this year.

Commonwealth Plywood announced 23 job losses at its Rapide-des-Joachims plant this week.

Since April, nine forestry plants across Quebec have shut down, highlighting ongoing challenges in the sector.

The MRC de la Vallée-de-la-Gatineau has launched its forestry crisis unit to support impacted workers and find solutions.
