Russia cuts sawn timber exports by 16% to the CIS (Commonwealth of Independant States) in 2022

In 2022, Russia reduced its supply of sawn timber to the CIS by 16% to 4.2 million m³ which includes Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.

Supplies to the EAEU (Eurasian Economic Union) states also fell by 26% to 847 thousand m³ than a year earlier, which include Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Armenia.

The reduction in sawn timber exports to the CIS is due to logistics problems and the closure of their transit via the republics of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. 

From January to September 2022, lumber supplies to Uzbekistan grew by 3%, 5.2%, and 6%, respectively, each quarter, but fell by 32% in October-December.
