Russia’s sanctions to increase the demand for home-grown timber in the UK
Posted on March 28, 2022 |
In 2021, Russia exported $11.7 billion of timber, with the UK importing 450,000 m³ of Russian timber products.
Russia suspended timber exports to the West, and the UK construction industry is warning of supply trouble and shortages in some product sites.
As the Western economies move to lower their reliance on Russian energy and associated products, there will be pressure on timber resources.
The high demand for timber is at a time when the UK is struggling to reach the target of planting 7,500ha of trees a year by March.
