Tropical countries increased wooden furniture imports to the EU by 26% in Q1 2022

- From January to March, the import of wooden furniture grew by 26% to $500 million, which is 26% compared to the previous year.
- The import value of tropical sawnwood grew by 31% to $214 million compared to the same period in 2021 and the import value of moldings and decking in Q1 2022 also grew by 47% to $108 million from a year earlier.
- In Q1 2022, the value of imports of wood and wooden furniture to EU countries from exporting countries saw an increase in which imports from Vietnam grew by 24% to $253 million, and from Indonesia, imports rose by 31% to $230 million.
- Malaysian imports grew by 22% to $96 million, Gabon imports increased by 39% to $74 million, from Brazil by 25% to $74 million, Cameroon by 38% to $68 million, and from Côte d' Ivoire by 18% to $14 million.
- The tropical timber imports to the EU from France grew by 25% to $212 million, from Germany by 17% to $173 million, from Belgium by 39% to $168 million, from Italy by 50% to $86 million, from Spain by 28% to $55 million, and from Ireland 42% to $24 million.
- The value of shipments from India increased by 2% to $108 million but imports from the Republic of the Congo dropped by 9% to $21 million.
