  • These tariffs consist of Anti-dumping and Countervailing duties and is intended to offset the value of dumping and/or subsidizing of Canadian companies by Canadian government.
  • USA expects this will help in leveling the playing field for domestic industries due to unfairly traded imports.
  • The aim is to protect the U.S. lumber industry from the unfair Canadian subsidies and to bring the lumber price back up to the market rates.
  • The decision comes despite the increasing lumber price by 275% since April 2020.
  • Lumber prices have increased more than $36,000 to the price of a new home and the price of millions of middle-class households
