Chinese ports resumed as Covid-19 lockdowns eased

  • Since mid-May, volume at the Port of Shanghai increased, with the 14-day average ocean shipment volume growing by 15% compared to 12 March (the day before lockdowns) and up 36% week-over-week for shipments.
  • Volume at the Port of Shenzhen grew by 53% (up 26% week-over-week) and volume at the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan grew by 30% (up 3% week-over-week) compared to 12 March.
  • The 14-day average shipment volume for loads transiting from China to the United States is now up 4% compared to levels seen on 12 March.
  • The 14-day average ocean dwell time for export shipments is at 6.8 days, down 19% from the high seen earlier in June.
  • Import dwell time at Chinese ports grew by 11% to 4.5 days compared to before the lockdown.
  • The 14-day average shipment volume for loads being delivered to Shanghai fell by 56% compared to 12 March and the volume being picked up from Shanghai is stable, but is still down 78% compared to 12 March.
