East and Gulf Coast port workers ratify 6-year labor deal with US Maritime Alliance

ILA members have approved a six-year contract with the US Maritime Alliance (MLA), preventing a potential strike that could have disrupted East and Gulf Coast port operations.

MLA had already given the green light, and nearly 99% of ILA members voted in favor of the agreement.

The contract guarantees a 62% pay raise over six years, increasing top wages from $39 to $63 per hour.

Ports can implement new technology, but they must hire additional workers when doing so, and full automation is not allowed.

The agreement brings stability to US ports while balancing modernization and job security.

Both parties will finalize the deal the week of March 10, officially putting it into effect.
