EU launches effort to safeguard shipping in the Red Sea

The European Union launches a mission to protect international shipping in the Red Sea from in Yemen's Houthi attacks.

Europe aims to ensure free navigation in the Red Sea, working with global partners.

The mission is led by Greece, with operational control at sea managed by Italy.

France, Germany, Italy, and Belgium agreed to commit ships to the mission, focused on safeguarding civilian shipping for one year.

EU nations quickly agree to the mission amidst concerns about the economic impact and inflation from potential Huthi threats.
