G20 leaders announce ambitious rail and port project linking India to Europe

The US offers an extensive infrastructure plan to connect India and Europe through the Middle East

The initiative is trying to provide an option for China's "Belt and Road" project

The EU, Saudi Arabia, India, UAE, US, and other G20 partners are set to sign a memorandum of understanding.

The project's goal is to create a rail and port network to facilitate Gulf-to-Europe energy trade

The plan forecasts railway expansion to Israel and European ports through the Middle East
