New bipartisan bill to protect US ports from cyber threats

The bill proposes several steps to reduce the dangers of using cranes from countries such as China, which are considered US adversaries.

The Port Crane Security and Inspection Act of 2023 seeks to manage the growing troubles regarding China’s effect on port infrastructure.

The bill includes restrictions on the use of cranes, demanding the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) review foreign cranes for security vulnerabilities before they are put into operation.

Moreover, the act demands CISA provide reports on critical and high-risk security vulnerabilities from foreign cranes in US ports to Congress.
