
Transpacific volumes saw an uptick as labor conflict hits

In May, outbound transpacific cargo exceeded 1.5 million TEU, the highest level in 6 months since October 2022.
The fleet of ships comes at a time when US west coast ports are facing erratic labor walk-outs at terminals.
Later this week, union members will vote on advancing a 72-hour strike at the Canadian ports.
As a result, the Oakland Port closed operations after a crane operator died on the job.
This continued standoff between employers and employees at the docks resulted in an increase in spot freight rates.
Since the start of the disruption on June 2, an average of 5 vessels were outside the port of LA and Long Beach ports.
