U.S. Federal Court blocks Trump’s tariffs, citing overreach of power

A U.S. federal court has blocked Donald Trump’s wide-ranging tariffs, challenging his authority to impose them.

The Court of International Trade ruled that the emergency law used by the White House doesn’t allow the president to apply tariffs unilaterally.

The ruling also halts separate tariffs placed on China, Mexico, and Canada.

The Trump administration has appealed the decision, arguing judges shouldn't interfere with national emergency actions.

Earlier this month, Trump eased tensions with China by cutting tariffs by 115% for 90 days.

The tariff cut sparked a surge in transpacific freight rates as shippers rushed to move goods before the deadline.
