US House passed new legislation to prevent rail strike

- The House of Representatives approved a bill to prevent a dangerous US rail strike which was scheduled to begin on December 9 and also mandated paid sick time for the workers.
- The new measure passed by the House imposes the earlier deal that was rejected by 4 of the 12 labor unions, which represent over 100,000 freight carrier employees.
- The deal included 24% raises and $5,000 in bonuses over a series of annual payments and employees would be expected to pay a bigger amount of their health insurance costs, premiums would be restricted to an utmost of 15%.
- This week earlier, Biden requested Congress to utilize legislative powers to force the acquisition of a preliminary deal, which freight rail companies and workers demanded in September before trade unions decided to go on strike.
