U.S. imposes 25% tariffs on Canada, Mexico imports; 10% on China
Posted on February 3, 2025 |
US President announces new tariffs on imports from Canada, Mexico, and China, citing concerns over fentanyl and illegal immigration.
The US sets higher import taxes, adding a 25% tariff on Canadian and Mexican goods and a 10% tariff on Chinese products.
Canada gets lower energy tariffs, but Mexico doesn’t. Canadian energy products face a 10% tariff, while Mexican energy imports get the full 25%.
New tariffs take effect on Tuesday, February 4, at 12:01 AM EST.
Goods shipped before Saturday, February 1, at 12:01 AM EST, won’t be taxed under the new rules.
The government says tariffs will boost security by tackling fentanyl smuggling and illegal immigration.
