China strikes back with 34% tariff on U.S. goods amid escalating trade tensions

China will impose a 34% tariff on all U.S. imports starting April 10, matching the U.S.'s recent tariff hike on Chinese goods.
This is part of China’s retaliation against President Trump’s "Liberation Day" tariff package.
China also announced new export controls on rare earth minerals like samarium and gadolinium, used in aerospace, defense, and medical tech.
Beijing added 27 companies to its trade sanctions and export control lists, including 16 facing bans on "dual-use" product exports.
China filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization, claiming the U.S. tariffs violate trade rules.
In February, China had already imposed tariffs of 10–15% on U.S. coal, LNG, crude oil, agricultural machinery, and large-engine vehicles.
The growing trade war is increasing fears of economic instability and a possible global recession.
