July saw a 2.1% decrease in wholesale sales in Canada due to falling lumber prices

  • The fall in lumber prices drove sales of construction materials and supplies, causing wholesale sales to drop to $70.1 billion, a 2.1% decline.
  • The sales of building materials and supplies dropped to 12.4%, personal and household fell 1.6%, and food, beverages, and tobacco sales are down to 0.8% 
  • Excluding the building material and supplies sector, wholesale sales increased by 0.1%
