February sees a 5% drop in Canadian wood sales, but yearly growth stays positive

Wood product manufacturing sales in Canada fell by 4.6% in February 2025 to $3,284 million, down from $3,442 million in January.
Despite the monthly decline, sales remained 6.1% higher than February 2024’s level of $3,096 million.
The sector’s capacity utilization rate dropped to 72.6% in February, compared to 75.7% in January and 73.6% a year earlier.
Total manufacturing sales in Canada rose 0.2% month-over-month to $72,936 million, marking the fifth straight increase.
Durable goods industries saw a 2.1% monthly rise in sales, reaching $38,316 million, with wood products among the weakest performers.
Machinery manufacturing performed better, with sales up 2.0% to $4,544 million and capacity utilization climbing to 77.9%.
In terms of regions, British Columbia’s manufacturing sales dropped 3.6% in February, while Alberta recorded a 3.0% decline.
