Timber, Furnishings and Textiles Union (TFTU) emerges in Australia after CFMEU split
Posted on April 16, 2025 |
Over 91% of CFMEU’s manufacturing division voted to split and form the Timber, Furnishings, and Textiles Union (TFTU).
The AEC (Australian Electoral Commission) -managed ballot ran from February 24 to April 14, with 3,553 votes in favor and 324 against.
The high turnout was notable for a non-compulsory vote and enabled by legislation pushed by Senator Jacquie Lambie and Tony Burke.
The TFTU will focus on protecting the wood supply and supporting jobs in timber towns.
A key priority for the new union is minimizing job loss linked to the expansion of the Koala Park on NSW’s north coast.
TFTU becomes Australia’s newest standalone union for timber, furnishing, and textile workers.
