Forestry giant Stora Enso sells stake in Sweden woods, retains supply rights

Posted on May 26, 2025   |

Stora Enso sells around 175,000 hectares (432,000 acres) of forest land in Sweden, making up 12.4% of its total holdings.

The deal is valued at EUR 900 million (US$1.01 billion).

A new company will be formed for sale: Soya Group will own 40.6%, a MEAG-led consortium will hold 44.4%, and Stora Enso will retain 15% ownership.

Stora Enso will sign a 15-year wood supply agreement with the new entity, with the option to extend it another 15 years.

Stora Enso will also provide forest management services to the new company.

The divestment is expected to lower Stora Enso’s adjusted EBITDA by about EUR 25 million annually, with EUR 15 million being cash-related.

The deal is awaiting regulatory approval and is expected to close in Q3 2025.
