High timber prices and shortages impacting EU and UK's wood projects

- European architects and engineers are struggling to source wood for their projects due to sanctions on Russia by the EU and UK.
- In 2021, Russia, Belarus, and Ukraine accounted for a quarter of the world's timber trade and 53% of the EU's timber imports.
- The shortages are impacting several projects in which timber-frame contractors are canceling commitments or declining to set material costs in advance, due to a daily increase in the cost of timber.
- The cost of solid oak and birch plywood has doubled in the past few months and structural timber's costs grew by 20%.
