- NAHB urged the Biden administration to increase domestic production of timber from federal lands and to work with Canada on a new softwood lumber agreement.
- The new bill will stop tariffs during a virtual White House listening session recently on fixing the lumber and building material supply chain crisis.
- The home building material costs are up 20% year-over-year and since last August, the price of framing lumber has tripled and oriented strand board (OSB) prices have doubled.
- In October 2021, domestic lumber production grew by 0.4% than the previous year and today it is lower than 2018, despite an increase in demand, and domestic sawmill production increased by 500 jobs last year despite high lumber prices.
