Softwood log exports expected to reach zero by 2022 due to new export ban and to control illegal trade of logs

Export has been already on decline for past 15 years Government plans to encourage domestic processing by providing subsidized loans for investing in wood processing facilities Subsidies will be given to facilities producing lumber and panels, and pellet manufacturers Export Ban is already in place from January 1, 2022 on shipments of unprocessed or roughly processed conifer and hardwood except Birch pulplogs to Finland Russia Softwood log export volumes was highest at 37 million m3 in 2006, but fell to 8.5 million in 2019 when log export tariffs were implemented in 2008 In 2020, export volume is expected to 6 million m3
