UK Timber Industry after Brexit

UK is set leave EU On 1 January 2021 154 codes out of 200 wood products will remain duty free however, duty of 6%-10% will apply on wood-based panels Both hardwood and softwood sawnwood will remain duty free Supplier to pre-notify and get phytosanitary requirement in the country of origin Processed coniferous wood (debarked), except from Spain and Portugal will not need any documentation Hardwood species coming from specific EU countries such as beech, birch and ash (not oak) will go through major changes to comply with phytosanitary requirements ISPM15 rules to applied to all wood packaging material travelling in both directions between the UK and EU The Northern Ireland Protocol due to its special status, will practically remain part of the EU single market Trade relation between UK and Sweden to be unaffected post Brexit and no tariff for sawn products are expected However, there are some worries about standards and certifications (like CE marking) which can create uncertainty
