Swedish wood giant Holmen tweaks production amid shifting log prices
Posted on September 3, 2025 |
Holmen posted an H1 operating profit of SEK 20 m in its wood products division, matching the previous year.
The company is adjusting timber production in southern Sweden due to changing log price dynamics and raw material shortages.
Efficient sawmills and processing capacity position Holmen well for when the construction cycle recovers.
Group profit in Q2 reached SEK807m, despite overcapacity in the industry and strong competition for raw materials.
Demand for wood products stayed weak in Q2, though seasonal price increases provided some relief.
Wood product deliveries in H1 totaled 671,000 m³, down from 698,000 m³ a year earlier, with Q2 volumes falling 5%.
Q2 operating profit was SEK19m higher than Q1, as Q1 earnings were reduced by SEK30m from a rebuild shutdown at Iggesund Sawmill.
