Weyerhaeuser has agreed to acquire 117,000 acres of timberland in North Carolina and Virginia from Roanoke Timberlands LLC for $375 million.
The high-quality, mature timberlands will be integrated with Weyerhaeuser’s existing operations in North Carolina and expand its reach into southeastern Virginia.
81% of the land is planted pine with strong site productivity and favorable all-weather logging access.
The timberlands are located in strong and growing sawlog and fiber markets in the U.S. South.
The acquired lands are expected to produce an average of 7.4 tons of harvest per acre annually, totaling around 860,000 tons in the first five years.
Weyerhaeuser projects a 5.1% average annual timber-free cash flow yield from the acquisition over the first five years.
The company sees long-term value in the land through real estate, natural climate solutions, and other resource opportunities.
Once the deal closes in Q3, Weyerhaeuser will own or manage nearly 900,000 acres in NC and VA and employ over 600 people across both states.
