Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) too busy with rising complaints from shippers

- The Israeli carrier ZIM and Mediterranean Shipping Co (MSC) are the two latest carriers that joined the list of complaints.
- Samsung Electronics America filed a complaint against ZIM, criticizing more than 2,000 individual demurrage charges and over 7,000 detention-type charges it has been hit with since 2020.
- MVM, a California-based logistics company claimed MSC came in with $800,000 in charges and then blocked it from entering its terminal.
- Other carriers forced to deploy lawyers this year as cases build up at the FMC which include CMA CGM, Hapag-Lloyd, HMM, Maersk, Ocean Network Express, Wan Hai, and Yang Ming.
