German ports continue to suffer from rising congestion while European ports revive

  • At present, in Bremerhaven, the 60-day average ocean dwell times (across imports, exports, and transshipments) grew by 43% since April and 19% since the start of the year to 9.3 days.
  • In Hamburg, the 60-day average ocean dwell times grew by 79% since March and 22% since the start of 2022 to 9.5 days.
  • At Antwerp, the 60-day average ocean dwell time is at 7.5 days, which is below the high of 8.1 days seen in early April but is 15% higher than the start of the year.
  • For Rotterdam, the 60-day average ocean dwell time reached 6.9 days, which is a tenth below the start of the year, however, dwell times at Rotterdam have soared 15% since June.
  • At Valencia, the 60-day average ocean dwell time fell by 13% to 8.8 days than the peak seen in May and June but is still 6% above levels seen at the start of the year.
  • Across the rest of Europe, port congestion has stabilized as the 60-day average ocean dwell time in the continent dropped by 19% to 7.6 days compared to the peak seen in late March and 12% below the start of the year.
