Port of Oakland saw a decline of 28% in volumes in July as congestion and strike slowed operations

  • The port moved 116,629 TEU compared to 162,898 in July 2021, loaded imports dropped by 26.7% to 69,463 TEU compared to 94,745 the year prior.
  • Loaded export containers saw a decline of 30.8% to 47,166 TEU transiting through the port in July compared to 68,153 TEU in the same period last year.
  • Full imports in 2022 year-to-date fell by 4% compared to the first 7 months of 2021.
  • The global supply chain hurdles, rising congestion, and protests severely disrupted operations, delaying the unloading of inbound ships, and hindering imports from leaving the terminals.
  • In June, the Port of Oakland’s total loaded container volume fell by 1.5% compared to the year prior, and the Port handled 163,757 loaded TEU compared to 166,252 in June 2021.
