International Brotherhood of Boilermakers rejects labor agreement, after BMWED extends deal deadline
Posted on November 21, 2022 |
- The International Brotherhood of Boilermakers (IBB) denied the labor agreement that was worked out between the railroads and the leadership of 12 different rail worker's unions.
- The IBB represents 300 employees, who work on repairing locomotives.
- The IBB joins the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way–Employees Division (BMWED) and the Brotherhood of Railroad Signalmen (BRS) in rejecting the labor deal, sending all 3 unions back to the bargaining table.
- Up to this time, the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way–Employee Division (BMWED) will not go on strike after November 19th and instead moved the end of its cooling-off time from November 19 to December 4,
- BMWED members will need to maintain the status quo at their respective sites and will be aligned with the 3 other unions that have yet to ratify the labor agreements.
- The status quo period is the “cooling-off period,” in which neither the unions nor the railroads engage in any work stoppage or self-help measures.
