May saw a 1.3% of growth in container volumes across Saudi Arabian ports

- In May, Saudi Arabian ports moved a total of 600,107 TEU, which is an increase of 1.38% compared to the same period of 2021.
- Export containers grew by 2.57% to 175,958 TEU while import containers dropped by 0.64% to 176,978 TEU.
- Transshipment containers over the period grew year-on-year by 2.01% to 247,172 TEU, driven by Saudi Ports Authority's (MAWANI) initiatives in line with the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS).
- Cargo volumes also grew annually by 23.70% to 21,041,021 tons and 1,020 vessels docked at Saudi ports last month, which is an increase of 3.03% compared to May 2021.
- MAWANI's cargo throughput tonnage increased by 7.18% to a total of over 74 million tonnes, compared to the 2021 figures, while the number of transshipment containers increased by 5.91% to 1.3 million TEU.
