Port congestion to rise again following the 2nd strike at the Port of Felixstowe

  • The first worker strike at Felixstowe increased the container at the terminal, and ocean shipments (including import/export/transshipment) at the Port of Felixstowe had been at the terminal for 5.5 days on average which grew by 87% to 10.3 days on average by August 30.
  • After the end of the first strike, the average days at Felixstow fell to an average of 3.8 days, rising again by 84% to 7 days from the start of the second strike on 27 September to 3 October.
  • Port of Felixstowe's shipments saw a week-over-week decrease of 57% from 27 September, the beginning of the 2nd strike.
  • During the initial strike, shipment arrivals to Felixstowe fell from 20% to 0% (in the week of 7 August), as many shipments rerouted to other ports in the UK such as Southampton, which saw an increase from 13% to 24%.
