US railroad union rejected a deal with employers, raising strike concerns

- America's 3rd-largest railroad union, the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employes (BMWED) refused a contract with employers, which raised concerns of a strike that could mutilate the economy.
- Railroaders are upset with working conditions and compensation and account their employer for the quality of their life.
- All 12 unions with 115,000 workers will have to ratify their contracts to prevent the strike out of which only 4 railroad unions approved their agreements with freight railroads which Transportation Communications Union (TCU), Brotherhood of Railway Carmen (BRC), a division of the TCU, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and American Train Dispatchers Association (ATDA).
- The BMWED union agreed to postpone any strike until 5 days after Congress regather in mid-November to allow time for additional negotiations.
- 8 railroads that are yet to ratify their agreements are the Brotherhood of Maintenance Way Employees (BMWED), National Conference of Firemen and Oilers/SEIU (NCFO), International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART M).
- Brotherhood of Railway Signalmen (BRS), International Brotherhood of Boiler Makers (IBB), Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET), International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Workers (SMART TD), and International Association of Machinist and Aerospace Workers (IAM).
