Rail worker's strike to shut down UK rail network over job security and pay

- The Associated Society of Locomotive Engineers and Firemen (ASLEF) train drivers’ union, accounting for 96% of the train drivers in England, Scotland, and Wales, and the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) are planning a walkout in October as workers struggle to manage the soaring cost of living.
- The RMT declared a 24-hour walkout on 1 October which will halt the railway, as the union failed and did not receive any help to come to a negotiated settlement.
- ASLEF declared a railway strike on 1 and 5 October, scheduled for 15 September but postponed after the death of Queen Elizabeth II on 8 September.
- In 2022, ASLEF successfully negotiated pay deals with 9 train companies and is now in dispute only with those who failed to provide a fair settlement.
