UK pledges £20 billion to shield exporters from US tariffs

The UK has announced a £20 billion ($26 billion) boost to its export finance program, raising the total to £80 billion, to support exporters affected by US tariffs.

The support package aims to benefit thousands of UK businesses, especially those facing trade disruptions due to Trump’s import tax changes.

Small businesses will be eligible for loans up to £2 million under the new scheme.

Analysts warn that the 10% US tariff on UK goods could dampen both business and consumer confidence in the UK.

Key sectors like automotive, steel, and aluminum are especially vulnerable, facing tariffs as high as 25%, despite the US being the UK’s largest single-country trading partner.
