Congo plans to ban log exports to improve its rainforest

• The Democratic Republic of the Congo is under pressure to improve forest management and reduce the high deforestation rate that doubled in the last decade
• The country will ban log exports and implement other means to reduce threats to its carbon-absorbing tropical rainforest
• The ban will enable natural rejuvenation in the Congo Basin rainforest that absorbs 4% of global carbon dioxide emissions out of the atmosphere yearly
