Finland decreased the export of timber products by 7% in the first 5 months of 2022

- In January-May, wood imports in the country reached 2.43 million m³, which is a year-on-year decrease of 55%.
- In the total volume of imported timber, 46% contain pulpwood, 36% were chips, and 3% include logs, but compared to the same period last year, pulpwood imports fell by 61%, imports of wood chips fell by 53%, and logs fell by 66%.
- In the same period, Russia imported 59% of timber to Finland, Estonia imported 18%, and Latvia imported 13%.
- In May, 13% of imported timber came from Russia and was mostly by-products.
- In January-May, the value of Finnish forest industry exports hit 5.78 billion euros in real terms, an annual decrease of 7%.
- In May, the value of exports of timber products soared to 1.26 billion euros and the export value of the woodworking industry grew by 19% to 2 billion euros in real terms compared to 2021.
- The value of exports of sawn timber grew by 16% but the volume fell by 4%.
