German Sawmilling and Timber Industry Association calls for increased use of local timber resources

- Germany’s Sawmilling and Timber Industry Association (DeSH) is reaching for the country to end its dependency on fossil and imported resources, particularly in regard to the energy sector, due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
- The interruption of supply chains and production has serious effects on the work and livelihood of many people, and for the transport of goods of all kinds and the secure supply of heat and electricity, and at the same time, climate change is progressing and needs a consistent shift towards sustainable and renewable materials in all areas of life.
- DeSH argues that consolidating hardwood processing and use in Germany as a political goal has been slowed by far-reaching restrictions on forest use and unclear outline terms.
